When you have some discomfort after dental crown placement, it might be that the treated tooth is recovering from the loss of enamel. Downtown Vancouver dentist Fotolia_3843301_XS.jpg

In giving you a new dental crown, I am forced to get rid of a lot of enamel. In fact, it may feel as if none of the enamel is left. The nerves in your tooth will be extra sensitive to friction, pressure and temperature changes. The tooth will tingle and hurt slightly after the dental crown is affixed. But you won't have to suffer long. Within two days, the sensation will stop.

Another post-procedure problem is that the crown may be taller than you want. Such a situation could be traced to the lab, where the technical guys may have made a mistake in following my specifications. I could do one of two things. Either I could grind down the dental crown to the right height, or order another crown from the technician.

Then again, it might just be that the crown doesn't fit, period. The crown's hollow core could be slightly below or above our specifications. In addition, the circumference and width may not be right for the stump of your tooth root that was made.

Fixing this depends on what the crown is made of. With a gold dental crown or a combination of gold and porcelain, we can remedy the situation in no time. Gold is a soft metal and we can easily knock it into different shapes. Hence, we can put things right fairly quickly. If we were to use porcelain dental crowns, there could be more work to do for the lab technicians when they do the amendments.

Regardless, the key aspect of all of this is that you do not go away disappointed and that you feel satisfied with the service we have given you. We don't want you leaving this office without feeling a million dollars, in comfort and your looks. It is your procedure and you are the one making the big calls. We have a minor role to play, that of giving you the skills and equipment to assist you in reaching your targets.
