A dental crown can be made from many materials–palladium and gold are just two of many. I mix these materials together while you are visiting me at my Downtown Vancouver office, so it is possible to see which one will work best for you. Downtown Vancouver dentist Fotolia_4363635_XS.jpg

In my Downtown Vancouver office, we customize each crown, since every person has something different in mind. I start by studying your tooth. Do the cusps or tips remain sharp? Has there been a piece that has flaked off, and how big is that compared to the original tooth? Has there been any cracking or a hairline fracture that nearly destroyed the tooth?

Then I measure the vital statistics and use the tooth to get a representation of its shape. These statistics are then forwarded to the dental technician–who is a master craftsman, who can make the right-fitting dental crown.

If I am going to install a crown made from valuable metal, then I may have to remove a small portion of enamel–the external jacket of your tooth. Or, if it's a non-metal Downtown Vancouver dental crown, the basic method of advance will be to grind down the tooth until we hit the dentine area.

Obviously, previous to any work being done, I will discuss with you at length about any associated dangers and advantages. After taking my advice into account, you decide what you want to do.

Before I install your permanent crown, we'll put in one that is temporary. Doing this makes certain that you won't struggle with tooth sensitivity. The moment we finish the permanent crown, we weigh it against the shade of your natural teeth. What's more, you will be asked to sink your teeth together a few times, so I am able to determine if my technician did the specs right.

After we are both happy, then I proceed with the finishing touches, and you'll be good to go.
